Wednesday

Lesson with Stella
  1. Schubert Waltz in b. Note1: play right hand a little deeply. Note2: the modulation is: b minor, D Major, b minor, B Major. The cords in the left hand are simple the inversion and dominant. Analyze it.
  2. Schubert Serenade. We played it together. Note1: move up the tempo.
Evening practice:
  1. I memorized the Waltz.
  2. I went through TPI 1, 8, 13. I worked out the parts where I usually have technical difficulties. Note: I have to change my habit of repeating the whole piece; it is better just to focus on one difficult aspect and polish it.
  3. I went through 3 more bars of WTC I Prelude in c (hands together). Now I am on bar no 7.

Tuesday

Morning practice
  1. Schubert Seranade (Stadchen), arr. for four hands: I went through the whole piece, hands separate and together. If I repeat this tonight and tomorrow morning, I could play it with Stella.
Evening practice
  1. Schubert Seranade (Stadchen): hands together

Monday

I spent ~1h30m practicing
  1. WTC I Preludium in c: separate hands; I am getting better, but I think I will need one more day before I could put them together.
  2. Schubert Waltz no 6 in b op. 18: I can play 'all' three lines without stops; now it is time to memorize it.
  3. I repeated my standard repertoire.

Sunday

I went through:
  1. WTC I in c: separate hands; first page only. It is better and better.
  2. WTC I in C: I memorized some more bars; I can say 75% of work is done.
  3. Schubert waltz; I started memorizing it.

Lesson + Practice

Lesson with Stella: we went through:
  1. WTC I Prelude in c: separate left and right hands
  2. Schubert Serenade: separate left and right hands to figure out fingering. Note: when playing triplet, sit down on the first note and hold it a little bit longer; that will improve to overall timing. Note2: when figuring out fingering, pay attention to the direction of a musical line, and that will help to determine the first finger.
Practice: I did little practice
  1. I repeated my standard repertoire:)
  2. I went through Schubert waltz; I don't remember the number. I did this piece couple of months ago, and I was surprised how easily it came back. Tomorrow I will try to memorize it.

  3. Schubert Serenade for four hands; I went quickly through right hand just to get the feel of it.

Today I practice for about 1:15.
  1. WTC I Prelude in C: I started memorizing it; I managed to learn about 12 bars
  2. WTC I Prelude in c: I did right hand till the end (I need to work on couple of last measures to be minimally satisfied) and left hand till the middle of the first page.

Is it already working?

Could it be that this blog is already working?
I practiced a little bit early afternoon and after I come back from watching the football game. I really did not want to practice the second time, but then I thought of this blog, and I thought to myself 'what will you write down?' This was enough to put me on the bench for 1h15m. So those are my today's accomplishments:
  1. WTC I Prelude in C: I continued to polish it. I discovered a little note at the beginning of my edition, that fingers should move as little as possible. It made me think, and then I tried it. I discovered that it is much easier to play, for the fingering is so natural. I think the next step will be to memorize this piece.
  2. WTC I Prelude in c: I went through about 12 bars; separate hands. I realized what great finger exercise it is to play this piece. It made me to appreciate this piece even more.
  3. ThPI no 15. This is the piece I practice a little about 2 months ago, but I never completely finished it; so now I am returning to it. Hopefully I will finish it this time. Today I quickly refreshed the right hand.
I did not accomplished what I planed for today (Bach concerto, waking up early), but I think it was a good day: at least I did something.
The goal for tomorrow is:
  • wake up early
  • start theory with the '...visual approach to chord construction...'; this is the book which I finished last year, but after not practicing for 5 months, I almost forgot majority of what I learnt.
  • start practicing Bach concerto
  • continue with Preludes and ThPI 15

Bach Preludes

I had lesson with Stella today. We went through WTC I Prelude in C. She said she can't play it anymore without hearing Ave Maria by Gounod. Excellent examples of that is when Bobby McFerrin sings it. After that we started WTC I Prelude in c.
After work I practice for about 40 min.
1. WTC I Prelude in C
2. WTC I Prelude in c; for starter I did 6 bars separate hands and 3 bars both hands.
3. Repeated TPI 1, 8, 13; Grieg (Poetic Tone Picture); Schubert (Waltz no 9)

The objective for tomorrow is to wake up in the morning and practice Bach concerto and ThPI 15.
Hopefully I can soon start doing theory and improv.
